What I am most passionate about is fitness and health through teaching and inspiring others to lead a healthy life!
Shortly after joining a local gym, fresh out of college, I immediately became fascinated with fitness and exercise. I was determined to learn as much as possible and began my journey by achieving several certifications through the Canfit Pro Organization and Goodlife Gyms.
Shortly thereafter, I was promoted to Assistant Manager at Peterborough’s Goodlife Fitness Club where I also served as Aerobic Coordinator, Group Fitness Instructor, and Fitness Assessment Trainer. During this time, my fitness career started to soar as I competed in provincial fitness competitions which resulted in winning first place in the Provincial Corporate Cup and winning top fitness instructor of the year.
At age 25, I opened my own Aerobic Studio called “The Ultimate Step in Aerobics” and successfully ran 40 group classes each week until I became pregnant with my first son. Shortly thereafter, I decided I wanted to focus on expanding my family and closed the aerobic studio. I was blessed with two more beautiful boys.
“I found that I was taking no time for myself”
As much as I loved being a stay-at-home mom, I lost myself in that role and gained quite a bit of weight. I found that I was taking no time for myself; I was only focusing on my family. As I kept gaining weight and becoming more sluggish, I had no energy to even think about fitness. I’d gain a few more pounds, grow more tired trying to keep up with three toddlers very close in age, and collapse in bed at the end of the day. Before I knew it, I was 75 pounds overweight.
I woke up one day and realized that something had to change. I wasn’t happy with myself. I knew that I wanted to get back into the fitness industry but in order to do so I had to make time for me and my health. I wanted to lose the weight and become a role model for other people, as well as my children.
It took about a year and a half to lose the weight and start to feel good about myself again. I did this slowly through exercise and healthy eating. I focused on learning as much as I could about nutrition by taking numerous courses and incorporating small changes into my daily life. Over time these small changes made a huge difference in my relationship with food. As I continued to lose the weight, I started a “learn to run program” and since then have completed 5K, 8K, and 10K runs, as well as 3 Half Marathons. My love of running motivates me to continue teaching running programs.

In 2007, I started my own home based business and I am now the proud owner of Peterborough’s exclusive, private, women’s only premier fitness studio GraceFit by Hope. Here I teach a variety of group fitness classes, see individual clients, as well as offer an “on-line fitness and nutrition” training platform for people all over the world.
Year after year, I continue to educate myself through many different workshops, seminars and conferences which allows me to stay up to date with latest and greatest fitness trends on exercise and nutrition. My goal is to continue to increase my knowledge and skills so I am able to help people succeed on their fitness and health journey.
